The renegade story

Restored with purpose

Renegade Adventures began in 2016 with the acquisition of a classic 65-foot custom motor yacht originally built by Broward Marine and Frank Denison. Launched as Southmere and commissioned by the Firestone family, legend holds that she was the first vessel produced at Broward’s eventual Saugatuck, Michigan facility.

Since then, Southmere has been reborn as Renegade and undergone a decade-long, seven-figure restoration and modernization. Improvements include a new roof, stem, extensive structural reframing and re-planking, bow and stern thrusters, a custom swim platform, upgraded electrical and fuel systems, modern plumbing, electronic engine controls, state-of-the-art navigation equipment, and a six-camera docking system.

Rather than preserving her as a museum piece, her owners envisioned something different. A yacht meant to be enjoyed for generations to come.

In 2021, Renegade was joined by her loyal tender, Rebel, the twin-engine 6.5-meter Zodiac equally at home exploring hidden coves, ferrying guests ashore, or chasing sunsets across the San Juans. Like her mothership, Rebel has been thoroughly updated with modern electrical and navigation systems.

Renegade and Rebel call Roche Harbor their permanent home. After Halloween, they make their annual pilgrimage south for maintenance and winter beneath Seattle’s Ballard Bridge before returning to Roche each spring.

She is precious. purposefully not posh.

Think less polished super yacht and more that unforgettable family cabin on the water. The one where stories get better every year. She can handle muddy boots, wet dogs, fishing gear, paddle boards, spilled wine, and the occasional scrape against a dock. She is meant to be used, enjoyed, and shared.

In 2026, one of the original owners decided to step back from yachting. As a result, the custodial owner is open to welcoming new couples or families interested in sharing substantial annual access with shared operating expenses. The custodial owner will continue to fund major capital improvements and long-term stewardship of the vessel.
